Cisco taps AMD to control a hyper-thick server for data centers, edge computing

Cisco this week widened its server family with a high-thickness box went for taking care of process serious data center workloads and dispersed edge computing conditions.

The Cisco C-Series C4200 multimode rack server is a 2RU box included the C4200 body and C125 server hubs which Cisco says raises to 128% higher processor center thickness and 33% more memory contrasted with its current two-attachment UCS M5 rack servers. The C4200 case can house up to four server hubs.

“As processing request shifts from extensive, customary data centers to incorporate littler, more circulated conditions at the edge, the capacity to blend shape factors flawlessly in ‘small-scale data centers,’ and to oversee and robotize activities from the cloud turns out to be imperatively vital,” composed Kaustubh Das, Cisco VP of technique and item advancement, stockpiling in its Computing Systems Product Group in a blog about the new server.

“With a texture is driven design, incorporated, cloud-based service, and the capacity, now, to include thick frame factors and new abilities to UCS, we can better address new advancements as they rise. This without making new islands of framework or requiring forklift updates,” Das composed.

The server is Cisco’s first utilization of AMD processors – AMD EPYC 7000 arrangement CPUs.

For thick conditions, execution per watt is a key metric. EPYC processors offer the most centers with bringing down power utilization than different contributions, Cisco said in regards to its thinking behind utilizing the AMD technology. Cisco’s UCS family ordinarily utilizes Intel XEON processors.

The key highlights of the C125 M5 include:

  • Up to two AMD EPYC CPUs (up to 32 centers for every attachment); up to 64 centers for each hub, up to 256 centers for each C4200 Chassis (four server hubs)
  • 2666-MHz DDR4 memory, 16 DIMM openings (8 for each CPU attachment) for up to 2 TB of limit utilizing 128-GB DIMMs
  • 24 plate drives
  • Cisco 12G 9460-8i PCIe SAS RAID Controller with 2GB FBWC
  • Discretionary double SD cards or double M.2 SATA/NVMe drives for boot or expanded stockpiling limit

Investigators say the utilization of the AMD technology puts Cisco right in the multinode battle alongside boss contenders, for example, Dell and HP.

“Cisco is playing a little makeup for lost time here, however, the new server lets them altogether stretch out of their present sharp edge system,” said Ashish Nadkarni, program VP with IDC.

The server can be overseen through Cisco’s Intersight, a cloud-based framework that offers an assortment of services including the capacity to send and screen the wellbeing and stock status of the gadgets.

The UCS C4200 and C125 will be accessible in the second from last quarter of this current year.
